The Indianapolis Art Center, also known as the IAC, encompasses 12 acres near the White River and hosts a variety of community events. The building offers art exhibitions, museum exhibits, community classes, a gallery, and more. This art center was established in the 1930s as a small studio on top of a garage and has become a place known for its support and celebration of artistic and cultural expression. The new facility. built by artists as part of the Work Progress Administration (WPA), was designed with the mission to inspire. Today, it remains a center of culture and creativity for those who live in Indianapolis, specifically in Broad Ripple.
The entirety of the Indianapolis Art Center is located just a few steps away from the Monon Trail. It includes a sculpture garden and a park with a canoe launch point, all surrounded by the beautiful greenery that Indianapolis is known for. The outdoor area is also great for wedding photos. The building itself was designed by Michael Graves, an architect from Indiana. Today, fundraising helps the Indy Art Center continue to host major events, including art fairs, nonprofit events, film festivals, creative education courses, art camps, educational programs, and more. Indianapolis residents, including artists living locally, find that the creative center has become one of the most supportive event venues for the arts in Indianapolis.
